Margaret H. Mayo, a senior partner of Gaffin & Mayo, P.C., is a graduate of Barnard College and George Washington University Law School. She is admitted to practice in the courts of the State of New York, the United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, the Federal District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the United States Tax Court.
Ms. Mayo is a trial lawyer with considerable experience in many types of legal matters, including tort claims involving serious personal injuries, medical malpractice, employment discrimination, business disputes, estates, real estate, guardianships, divorce and family law, and professional disciplinary matters.
Professional Disciplinary Matters
Represents medical doctors and other licensed professionals before the New York State disciplinary agencies. Ms. Mayo has handled complex hearings in this area.
Divorce and Family Law
Manages complex divorce, custody and support disputes, with an empathetic and understanding approach to the client’s needs, and a special emphasis on resolving cases without the need for emotionally and financially draining litigation, but fully able to litigate aggressively, if necessary.
Guardianship
Ms. Mayo serves as a court-appointed guardian for individuals, court evaluator for guardianships, lawyer for person in need of guardian or for ward, lawyer for individual wanting to be appointed guardian.
Estates
Preparation of trusts, wills and ancillary agreements and representing estate representatives in connection with administration of estates and estate disputes.
Employment Discrimination
Ms. Mayo has represented active members of the military, the military reserves and military veterans who suffer employment discrimination, trying several high-profile cases in Federal District Court, New York.
Litigation
Trials by jury and bench in both New York State and Federal Courts in all of the above areas.
